Privacy Policy

Last updated 27 August 2026. This policy covers the FoodChaser mobile app and the FoodChaser website.

FoodChaser is a community for finding food. People report what they have found, post photos of what they are eating, and see what is open near them right now. This policy explains exactly what we collect to make that work, what we do with it, and how to get rid of all of it.

The short version. We collect the account details you give us, your approximate location while you are using the app, the photos and text you choose to post, and diagnostic data when the app crashes. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We never read your location in the background.

What we collect, and why

What	Why we need it
Your name and email address	To create your account, sign you in, and send you password resets and service email. Your ZIP code, if you give one, sets your starting area.
Your password	Stored so you can sign in. It is never stored as readable text and nobody at FoodChaser can see it.
Your approximate location	To show food near you, rank what appears in Explore and Live Finds, and decide which notifications are relevant to where you are. Sent to us when you search, open a map, or report a find. Only while you are using the app.
Photos you choose to post	To show on your post or find. Only the photo you pick is uploaded; we do not read your photo library.
What you post	Your posts, captions, comments, likes, saves, finds, friends and profile. This is the app working as intended - other people see what you share, according to the audience you pick on each post.
Your device's notification token	To send you a notification. Issued by Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging and stored against your account so a notification can reach this handset. Only stored if you allow notifications.
Crash and diagnostic data	To find out why the app broke. Collected by Firebase Crashlytics and not tied to your posts or your location history.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal data, and we never have.
We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and the app runs no advertising identifier.
We do not collect your location in the background, or when the app is closed.
We do not read your contacts, your calendar, your messages, or the list of accounts on your device.

Who we share it with

Only the services that make the app run, and only what each one needs:

Microsoft Azure - hosts the FoodChaser servers, database and the photos you post.
Google Firebase - delivers notifications (Cloud Messaging) and collects crash reports (Crashlytics).
Google Maps - draws the maps in the app.
Twilio SendGrid - sends account email such as password resets.

We also disclose information if the law requires it, and we will tell you when we are permitted to.

How long we keep it

Your content stays until you delete it or delete your account. Crash reports are kept for a limited period by Firebase. Purchase and payment records are kept for as long as accounting and tax rules require, and are described below.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the app - Profile → Delete my account - or from foodchaser.viviscape.io/delete-account if you have already uninstalled it. Either way, the same thing happens, immediately and permanently:

Deleted outright: your profile, your posts and their photos, your comments, your likes and saves, your friends and friend requests, the finds you have reported, your check-ins, favourites, reviews, challenge progress, badges, points, and every device registered for notifications. Other people's likes and comments on your posts go with the posts.
Anonymised, not kept: if you have ever placed an order through FoodChaser, the order record itself is kept because accounting rules require it - but your name, email, phone number, handle and password are destroyed, so what remains cannot be connected to you.

It cannot be undone, and it is not the same as logging out. There is no waiting period and no "restore" window.

Your choices

Location - refuse it, or turn it off later in your device settings. The app still works; it just cannot rank things by distance and will ask you where to look instead.
Notifications - refuse them, or turn them off later in your device settings. Nothing else changes.
Camera and photos - refuse them. You can use everything except posting a photo.
Who sees a post - each post carries its own audience: everyone, friends only, or just you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or ask for a copy of it. Email privacy@foodchaser.io and we will answer. We do not charge for this and we will not treat you differently for asking.

If you are in California, we do not sell or share personal information as the CCPA defines those terms, so there is nothing to opt out of - but the access and deletion rights above are yours regardless.

Children

FoodChaser is not for children. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger. If you believe a child has given us their information, email privacy@foodchaser.io and we will delete it.

Security

Everything the app sends travels over HTTPS. Passwords are never stored as readable text. Access to the production database is restricted to the people who operate the service.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or what we do with it, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be announced in the app.
